to find the equivalent resistance for series we add up all the resistances

R(equivalent)=R1+R2+R3...

To find the equivalent resistance for parallel we add up the reciprocal of the resistances and then 1 is divided by the obtained result..in short 1/R(equivalent,) =1/R1+1/R2+1/R3..

R(equivalent)=(R1R2R3)/(R1+R2+R3)
