- The cumulative frequency is calculated by adding each frequency from a frequency distribution table to the sum of its predecessors.
- The last value will always be equal to the total for all observations, since all frequencies will already have been added to the previous total.

Let the frequencies be 3 and 4.
Case I
Since there is no number before the first frequency ( 3 ), it is added to zero.
.
So the cumulative frequency in case I is 3.
Case II
Since there is a number befire the second frequency ( 4 ) , it is added to it.
.
And hence, 7 is the cumulative frequency in second case.
