How to find frequency from cumulative frequency?

  1. The cumulative frequency is calculated by adding each frequency from a frequency distribution table to the sum of its predecessors.
  2. The last value will always be equal to the total for all observations, since all frequencies will already have been added to the previous total.

Let the frequencies be 3 and 4.

Case I

Since there is no number before the first frequency ( 3 ), it is added to zero.

3 + 0 = 3.

So the cumulative frequency in case I is 3.

Case II

Since there is a number befire the second frequency ( 4 ) , it is added to it.

4 + 3 =7.

And hence, 7 is the cumulative frequency in second case.
