Consider the Combustion of hydrogen...!
2H2 + O2 --> 2H2O
Suppose that 2 moles of H2 and 2 moles of O2 are taken for the reaction.
it follows the equation that only 1 mole of O2 is required for complete combustion of 2 moles of H2, 1 Mole of O2 will, therefore be left on the completion of the reaction.
The amount of product obtained is determined by the amount of reactant that is completely consumed in the reaction . This is called Limiting Reagent .(LR)
LR may be defined as the reactants which is completely consumed during the reaction.
always keep this in mind while performing stoichiometric calculations.
