An equation of the form ax+b= 0,where a and b are real numbers and a is not equal to 0 is known as a linear equation in 1 variable.
An equation of the form ax+bx+c=0 , where a,b and c are real numbers, a and b both are not equal to 0 is known as a linear equations in 2 variables.
