If the atomic number is given from the electronic configuration we can find the poasition of the element.

Example:

Carbon (6)

Electronic configuration: (2,4)

No. of valence electrons gives the group number and no of shells gives period.

So it corrosponds to group 4 and period 2.

To find an element you must know its atomic number. Then to find its place in modern periodic table see the no.of valence electron in last shell. If the electron in outermost shell is more that 2 then add +10 to it by this you will find the group number and for period, see the no.of shells .

This will help you in finding name of particular element:

Atomic number          Name of element

1                                      Hydrogen

2                                         Helium

3                                        Lithium

4                                         Beryllium

5                                           Boron

6                                          Carbon

7                                             Nitrogen

8                                             Oxygen

9                                          Fluorine

10                                           Neon

11                                              Sodium

12                                             Magnesium

13                                          Aluminium

14                                              Silicon

15                                            Phosphorus

16                                               Sulphur

17                                              Chlorine

18                                            Argon

19                                              Potassium

20                                             Calcium

These above mentioned material are enough for your understanding.
