In my answer AB is substituted as OB and BC is substituted as BM
take equal length of points on the number line (2 units)
mark it as 0,1,2,3,4,5
MARK 0 AS O
from point 2 draw a perpendicular bisector
take the length of 1 unit and mark it on the bisector and mark the point as M
join OM that length of the required hypotenuse is root5
from point O take the length to M and draw an arc touching the number line
point touching the number line is root5 on number line
