➣ Oxygen -

Valency of oxygen is 2

Electronic configuration - (2, 6)

Since its valence shell has 6 electrons, it is easier to gain two electrons rather than losing 6.

➣ Hydrogen -

Valency of hydrogen is 1

Electronic configuration - (1)

➣ Sodium -

Valency of Sodium is 1

Electronic configuration - (2, 8, 1)

Since its valence shell has 1 electrons, it is easier to lose 1 electrons rather than gaining.

➣ Magnesium -

Valency of magnesium is 2

Electronic configuration - (2, 8, 2)

Since its valence shell has 2 electrons, it is easy to lose two electrons rather than gain 6.

➣ Chlorine -

Valency of chlorine is 1

Electronic configuration - (2, 8, 7)

Since its valence shell has 7 electrons, it is easier to gain 1 electron rather than losing 7.

Hope it helps..♪
