How to find ph of any solution if two substances are compound are mixed and if their initial concentration is given for example 50 ml of 0.1 molar hcl is added with 50 ml of 0.1 molar nacl?
Answers
NaCl won't contribute to the pH of the solution as it is a salt and neutral.
You can find the normality of the HCl solution and proceed with the qsn.
If you want to find the pH of a solution of acid and base then use the following equation
CASE-1 : mixture of two acids (OR) mixture of two bases
N1V1+N2V2 / V1+V2
then use the resultant normality for the pH equation
CASE-2: Mixture of an acid and base
First find out which is stronger acid or base by checking their gram equivalence/ moles
Whichever chemical has more moles/ gram equivalence will be stronger
And accordingly use the formula
(N1 will be normality of the stronger chemical )
N1V1 -N2V2/ V1+V2
I have used normality for pH but in some schools molarity is used for pH so you can use molarity instead of normality as well
