Resistance of a wire is directly proportional to the length of the wire and inversely proportional to the area of its cross - section, i.e.

r  \: \infty \:  l \\ r \infty  \binom{1}{a}  \\

To remove the sign of proportionality, we use a constant Rho ,i.e. which indicates the resistivity of the wire .

So, the final formula is

r =  \binom{rho \times l}{a}
