It is done by using pythogoras Theroem.

For eg:-

a side is s

All sides of a square are equal..

so the formula is

 {s}^{2}  +  {s}^{2}  = \:  {diagonal}^{2} \\ 2 {s}^{2}   =  {diagonal}^{2}
