Here are some rules to find the significant numbers ,

  • All non zero digits are significant.
  • All the zeros between two non-zero digits are significant.
  • Starting zeros are not significant.
  • Trailing zeros in a non-decimal number are not significant.
  • Trailing zeros in a decimal number are significant.
  • In exponential notation the numerical portion gives the number of significant figures.
