now ......to find the altitude of the triangle∆ABC a perpendicular AD is drawn on the base BC which bisects BC at point D
now ...ang(ADB)=ang(ADC)=90°
therefore..
BD=DC=BC/2=a/2
therefore....
from the ∆ADB
altitude=AD
base =BD
hypotenuse=AB
therefore from the Pythagorean theorem
AB²=BD²+AD²
=>a²=(a/2)²+AD²
= >AD²=a²-a²/4
=>AD=√(3a²/4)
=>AD=a√3/2
Therefore altitude is
=(side×√3)/2
