coefficient of static friction = μ.
on a sloping surface a mass m stands still if : 
   frction >= gravity
   μ N = μ m g cos Φ >= m g sin Φ
   So  Tan Φ <= μ
 
Angle of repose :  Tan⁻¹ μ
