how to find the hybridization in general if I don't know the structure of the molecule ???

it is easy to find,
let suppose you have to find hybridization of PCl3 than,
although you don't know the structure of it
but you should know it's valence electrons.
now as P has five valence electrons it can form five sigma bond but here it is PCl3 means three Cl are join with P , so three electrons are used in making three sigma bond , left two will remain with P as a lone pair electrons.
now totalling sigma bonds and lone pair.
3+1=4
so hybridization is SP3
