Hey mate!☺
Here's your answer.....!

What are energy shells?
↪Electrons revolve around the nucleus in certain definite circular paths called Shells Or Orbits. Since each shell is associated with a fixed amount of energy, they are also known as Energy Levels.

The period of an element can be determined by the number of shells in an atom.
For example, Sodium has atomic number 11 and its electronic configuration is 2,8,1 Since there are three shells the period if Na is 3rd.

Similarly if we know the PERIOD OF AN ELEMENT WE CAN DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF ENERGY SHELLS IN AN ATOM.
