the oxidation state of coordination compound is determined by following steps. ...

negative Ligands mostly have -1 and -2 charge. for example all halogens( fl,cl,br,at etc.), NO2,ONO,SCN,CN,NC,bears -1 charge and O2 ,S2O3,SO4 bears -2 charge.

neutral Ligands bears 0 charge. for example NH3 ,H2O, CO,NO,CH3NH2,pyridin etc.

positive Ligands bears positive charge.
