Hi there!

Here I will be providing a very easy method. So for this method you must be knowing the atomic numbers of all the elements.

Now to find out the period- the number of shells of that element will be equal to the period.

To find the group- the number of valence electrons will be the group.

If suppose there are 1 or 2 electrons in the valence shell then the groups of the elements will also be 1 and 2 respectively

But in case of 3,4,5,6,…. You have to add 10 to get the group

Now let's take sodium. It's atomic number is 11

K=2 L=8 M=1 therefore since there are 3 shells therefore it will be in 3 period and 1 electron in valence shell therefore it's group will be 1

Now let's take aluminium. It's atomic number is 13 therefore 2,8,3

Now it's in 3 period and 3+10=13 group

I hope it's clear now!

The elements are classified according to the electronic configuration
element having no.of electrons in their outermost orbit
