How to find the valency of sulphuric acid

Valency of Sulphur in Sulphuric acid is 6.

The H is +1 and there are 2 of them for a total of +2 
The O is -2 and there are 4 of them for a total of -8 
So the S has to be +6 in order to make the entire compound neutral 
So then you have +2 for H, +6 for S and -8 for the O.
