Method to find Valency:-

If the number of electrons in the outer shell is between one to four, the compound is said to have positive valency. For compounds with electrons four, five, six, or seven, the valency is determined by subtracting the electron from eight. All noble gases except for Helium have eight electrons.

the most easiest way to find valency are-

in an element number of atoms present in the last shell

example - Ca { calcium}

atomic number is 20

mass number is 40

in the calcium -

1st shell consists of 2 electrons

2nd shell consists of 8 electrons

3rd shell consists of 8 electrons

4th shell consists of 2 electrons

but it doesn't happens in every elements .
