Valence electrons means the number of electrons present in the outermost shell.

Valency of group 1 and group 2 elements remain the same . Whereas the valency of group 13 to group 18 elements is (8 - number of valence electrons)

Hope it helps you

Explanation:

With the help of atomic no.

ex Sodium atomic no. is 11 so the Valence electron is 2,8,1 .

so last shell having 1 then valency is 1

other example phosphorus atomic no.is 15 then electron is 2,8,5

so, then subtract 8-5 then the valency is 4

Thanks

Hope you will understand.
