How to find valency of any element in very much simple method

We can use the method of s,p,d,f...
These are sub-shells...
Each Sub-shells contain following number of electrons-
s=2
p=6
d=10
and f =14
...
You just have to write each sub shell 2 times
which means -
ss ps ps dps dps fdps fdps



Example of finding valency using the following method -
Neon-
No. electron = 10
Using the above method
1s2 2s2 3p6
(The second number ... such as in 1s2, 2 should be the power of s)

Another Example ...
Scandium
No. electron=15
1s2 2s2 3p6 3s2 4p6 4s2 5d1

To find the valency use the following rule...
If the last shell contain number like 1,2,3,4 it will remain same. If it is more than 4 like 5,6,7,8 it will be substracted by 8...
Example valency of scandium=
No. electron in last shell =1
So valency will be 1
