how to find valency of phosphate​

Phosphate ranks 15th in the atomic number table.Its electronic configuration is 2,8,5. Loosing 5 electrons is a very big process so it gains 3 electrons to become a ion. The number of electron lost or gained by a element to form an ion is called its valency. So the valency of phosphate is -3.
