How to find which is metal and non-metal in periodic table?

Check for the valence electrons by writing the electronic configuration.

If it has 1,2,3 valence electrons,it is a metal.

If it has 4,5,6,7 valence electrons, it is a non metal.

If it has 8 valence electrons, it is a noble gas.
