How to get clean sand from a mixture of sand and little bits of iron wire

First take a magnet and bring it close to the mixture all the iron bits will be attracted to the magnet then....you are left with only sand

Since iron is magnetic, we can easily use a permanent magnet to separate the sand from the iron bits.

1) Lay the mixture as thin as possible ( easier to get the iron bits )

2) Use a permanent magnet and hover over the mixture ( should be performed on the entire surface) , all of the magnetic particles ( iron bits )will get attracted to it.

This way all of the iron bits will be separated from the mixture.

However this is assuming that we have pure sand. If we don't there might be additional steps. This is very similar to the pratical to separate sulfur and iron. ( most of IGCSE students will have done this )
