We can decide whether the area receives high or low or moderate rainfall by such points:

  • Locate whether the place or region of the topographic map is near to the Equator or not. If the place is near the Equator or on the Equator, there are high chances of there being Equatorial Forests or regions, if such regions are found then there are high chances of High Rainfalls in that area due to Equatorial region.                                                                              If if there are no Forests Convectional rainfall occurs in such regions due to high temperatures in such regions.
  • A great method of finding out if there's more rainfall or less is to look out for the region's Ocean and Hot and Cold Currents. It also depends upon the Trade winds and the Monsoon winds which flow through the region.
  • Another way of finding it out is that if the selected region is near the Coastal region or not. Usually Coastal regions receive about 1500mm or rainfall on average. Generally, Orographic rainfall occurs in the Coastal regions.
  • Locate whether ur selected region consists of some high peaks or highlands or Mountainous ranges. The Leeward side of the mountain receives Less rainfall and the Windward side of the Ranges receives more rainfall.
