Global warming is when the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere doesn't allows the to release heat of the Earth acquired by the Sun. The carbon  dioxide acts as a blanket and doesn't allows the heat to escape. As a result, the heat warms the environment, it warms the houses and everything. It melts the glaciers and causes floods.
That's how it works.
Hope this helps!
