Essays:

   1. Follow the word limits and answer all the question prompts.

   2. Essays should be written in between 200 and 300 words. Keep the structure simple with 4–5 paragraphs in total, including 1 for introduction and 1 for conclusion.

   3. Never repeat words (other than names/names) in the essay.Use synonyms instead.

   4. Use good vocabulary (words not very commonly heard of).

   5. Complete your essay in less than 18 minutes, so you still have some time (2 minutes) to review and spell check.

   6. Ensure your grammar is correct.

   7. Try using variety of sentences - complex and compound sentences.

   8. When asked about opinion (do you agree), support one side and stick to that. Do not write contradictory sentences/paragraphs.

Summary Writing:

   1. Follow instructions including word limit. Ideally write 30–40 words summary in one sentence.

   2. When entering commas, be careful not to accidentally type a period (the keys are adjacent to one another on the keyboard).

   3. Think about the text in your first language, so you can better understand the essence of it/ the main idea behind it.This should be your summary as well as important ideas to back up the text.

   4. Do not lift words directly from the text (other than names/nouns), write your own words, use synonyms.
