Passé antérieur is the equivalent of the English past perfect: J'eus fait = “I had done”. This is a literary tense, and is rarely used in everyday conversations; the plus-que-parfait should be used instead. Futur antérieur is equivalent to the English future perfect: Il aura parlé = “He will have spoken”.
