Some symbols are added near the reactants and products of a chemical reaction to make it easier to understand the state of the reactants and products.
(s) means solid
(l) means liquid
(g) means gas
(aq) means aqueous
(↓) means a preciptate
Remember many times (s) is also used for precipitates.
