When a RBC is made at bone marrow, it has nucleus and it's not really red. During its maturation, hemoglobin is produced and it turns red. Then the nucleus will be self-destroyed. Immature RBC still has some ribosomal RNA and is called reticulocyte. Mature RBC is called erythrocyte. RBC maintains it's form by the ion pumps over its membrane to keep the osmolarity. When a RBC get old, it's membrane pumps can not work as efficiently and the RBC become bigger in size. When an enlarged RBC circulate through spleen, it get destroyed. It usually take 90-120 days. This is the life of a RBC. Whether you called reticulocyte and erythrocyte different types is up to you.
