                                         Introduction to a novel

The first pages or the introduction to a novel is always quite vital. Audience decide to read the book if the introduction is catchy and crispy! Some just decide how good the book is just by reading the starting pages. If it is boring, the novel will not get famous. Thus, some simple techniques must be followed to start a novel.

Usually, most of the novels start with a brief discription about your main character. The introduction or the first couple of pages must include details about the background and status of the main character. After reading the introduction, the reader should get answers to questions about the main character such as ‘Who?’, ‘What?’, ‘Why?’, ‘Where?’ or ‘When?.

A novel becomes interesting to read when the introduction starts with an attractive line. The line can also be a famous quote or saying. The starting pages should also raise interesting questions and curiosity to read further in the reader's mind. If the character has a distinct personality, it must be revealed in the introduction to intrigue the reader to read further.

Let me take the question as how to write the introduction part . This is written by the author to explain the backdrop (background) of the storyline. A few pages of what happened over years that make the contents important and interesting.

This introduction also introduces the main characters and the challenges on hand for them. If it's a suspense thriller, perhaps the main hero characters may not be introduced. Perhaps the crisis that's created by villains is introduced first.

The topic must be presented as if it's relevant to all readers of all kinds. Good vocabulary gets more appreciation from the educated.

The main hero or heroine is to be presented as helpful, daring, innocent or intelligent. Their nature helps readers start with an idea in their minds. It's good.

Sequencing events in chronological order is better. If there are more than one important locations where the story takes place, then introduce them too.

By the time introduction is read, a reader should want to read upto the main event of the novel. Readers should be looking forward to comedy, romance or crisis or adventure.

Adding just a little comedy is necessary too.

Simply write what you want reader to have in mind at the start of the story. Long descriptions of scenery or house etc. will deter readers at this stage .
To get more practical ideas see a few successful movies or read a few famous novels.

There should be energy in what characters say. Also writing in direct speech is better wherever possible.
