✳ is equal to zero : two equal real roots

✳ is less than zero : no real roots

✳ is greater than zero : two distinct reak roots

the nature of roots depends on the discriminant D=b^2-4ac

•if D<0....then no real roots

•if D=0....then equal and real roots

•if D >0....then unequal and real roots
