no of valence electrons gives the group no. for some.(if valence electrons are 1,2 (except he),3.
Eg.hydrogen has valence electron 1
so it's group no is 1
if the valence electrons are 3,4,5,6,7,8
group no. is the no of valence electron plus 10.
Eg.silicon has valence electron 4
so it's group no is 4 plus 10 and is 14
argon has valence electron 8
so it's group no. is 8 plus 10 and is 18
this is only for elements with atomic number 1 to 20
