Answer:

it's easy bae........

u just wanna read all the atomic number of first 20 element .... then

order the electrons in each shells ....KLMN..... there are limits to place electrons in shells

k=2 i.e, k shell has valence 2 electrons

L= 8

M=8

..... for example

we take oxygen , oxygen's atomic number is 8....

now according to the limits

place electrons in each shells

i.e atomic number.8 can be written as

8=2,6

the number lasts at the last shell is ur valency i.e, 6 is the valence of oxygen

we'll take another example

now we'll take calcium ,it's atomic number is 20

well place it according to the limits in each shells

20=2,8,8,2

thus, u can say that 2 is the valency of calcium

try these fr first 20 elements .....

hope it helps bye......

Answer:

valency of any element is either equal to the number of valence electrons present in their valence shell or 8 minus number of valence electons. And smaller number is preferred.

For example, Oxygen has 6 electrons in its valence shell, its valency can be 6 or 8-6=2

and smaller no. is preferred i.e 2. therefore, valency of oxygen is 2.

i hope it helps u.........
