first of all river is nothing but group of streams these streams will originate from mountains, place where these strems join we can call as birth or raising point of river there it move towards down and carry silt, sand e. t. c. we need to know flowing sates and important tributaries, moving direction plane regions, formation of deltas, dams and finally sea joining place and learning about tributaries is imp so we need to categorize tributaries as right and left tributaries
