see simply jst understand that the metals lose electrons so they have...positive charge...and for non-metals....they gain electrons....so have negative sign...

For numbers..

U have learnt the electronic configuration...

Metals lose the electrons in their last shell...which should be less than 4..and non metals gain electrons...to comolete its octate or to completely fill the last shell.
