To make a p type semiconductor,

Germanium can be doped with any Group 3 element such as,

Boron,Aluminium, Gallium and Indium

Now,

In p type semiconductor the majority charge carriers are holes,

So, we have to make the final atom electron defecient

Hence, we chose an already defecient group that is Group 3 which makes the

particle electron defecient thus heading to hole as majority charge carriers

Doping means adding impurities, for elements like Germanium and Silicon we use Trivalent- having 3 valance electrons and Pentavalent- having 5 valance electrons elements.

In order to make a P(positive)- Type Semiconductor from an intrinsic semiconductor it needs to be doped with a trivalent element.

In P-type semiconductor the P stands for positive ions also called as holes.

Some examples of trivalent elements are: Gallium and Boron.
