If th chapter is "Matter in our surroundings" then first you must know the basic of chemistry. That is just about bonds (covalent,metalic and etc.),atomicity,valency,groups (octade,divalent and etc.) and more.Then if your are aware about it then you may read it thoroughly and then ask questions to each and every sentence. You would yourself know the main points of that lesson.

If any another chapter is there of physics , chemistry or of biology you muse understand the basics of each and every subject and the rest over method is same.
