The human eye is a very complex organ which senses light, and allows us to see. However, making a model of the human eye can be as simple as making a pinata that looks like an eye. This model eye pinata will provide a lot of entertainment for kids, both while making the pinata, and while breaking it.
Take a balloon, of any color, and blow it up as big, and round, as possible.
Pour papier-mache glue into a bowl.
Take an old newspaper and cut into strips, about 2 inches wide and as long as the sheet of newspaper is wide. There is no need to use scissors to cut the newspaper, simply tearing it works just as well. Make as many strips as the entire newspaper allows; it’s better to have extra strips than not enough strips.
Take a strip of newspaper and dip it into the papier-mache glue so that the entire strip is covered in glue on both sides.
Attach the strip of newspaper to the balloon.
Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until the entire balloon is covered in sticky strips of newspaper.
Repeat Steps 4 through 6 at least two more times so that you have the balloon covered in about three to four coats of sticky newspaper strips. Then leave the balloon alone overnight so that the sticky strips of newspaper dry into papier-mache.
Paint the papier-mache white. Allow a couple of hours for the paint to dry before continuing.
Take a piece of colored construction paper, any color you want, and cut it into a large circular iris for the eye (the colored part). Use scissors to cut.
Take a piece of dark-colored construction paper, brown or black, and cut it into a smaller circle, about half the size of the first circle. This will make the pupil of the eye.
Glue the pupil to the iris. Use a glue stick.
Glue the iris to the eye. Use a glue stick.
Glue white crepe streamers to the eye if you want your pinata model eye to look fancy. If you don’t want that, you can skip this step.
Cut a Roman “I”-shaped slit to the bottom of the eye using a knife. The slit should be no more than 3 inches long. The slit should be cut deep enough to get through the thickness of the papier-mache and pop the balloon.
Insert candy of your choice into the pinata through the slit.
Insert a hook to the top of the eye, the side opposite the slit.
