Hey mate here is your answer
If you take an iron rod or bar (soft iron works best) and align it's orientation to North-South, you can usually strike it very hard with a hammer and it will magnetize to a certain degree. That is because the rapid impact causes the molecules and their magnetic domains in the iron to realign with each other and if the bar is facing North-South, that alignment will magnetize the bar. Learned that in grade school years ago. I've done it a few times when I needed a magnetic tip on my screwdrivers.
Conversely, you can demagnetize a metal object like a magnetic screwdriver or such by dropping it on a concrete floor or giving it a sharp strike on something solid.
