1] √10 = √3²+1²
2]draw a number line OC such that OA=AB=OC=1 unit
3] draw a perpendicular line from C of 1 unit [as √10 = √3²+1² ] and name the point as C
4] join O and C  it will form a triangle
      by pythagoras theorem
        OC = √10
    taking the radius of OC in compass draw an arc touching the number line .
and that point will be   √10 .

Hi!!
Here are your steps

1. draw a number line and take a unit you are comfortable with.

2. write this: h^2=p^2+b^2

h^2=√6^2+2^2
h^2=6+4
h=√10

3.take base as 4 units and perpendicular as 6 units.

4. it should look a bit like 90°. now join both ends with a hypotenuse.(triangle)

5. keep point of compass where "h" and "b" meet and pencil where ' h' and ' p' meet.

6. draw an arc and stretch it until it touches the number line

7.the point where the arc and number line meet is √10

hope it helped
