How to measure fungal growth in a petri dish?
Answers
One can measure the fungal growth in a petri dish by using the mycelial growth method. In this method, we can measure the approximate fungi colony area by getting perpendicular measurements by starting along the longest side.
After this, we can multiply the values and get an idea of the area of growth. If the fungus growth is more of a circular type then measure the diameter and get its radius.
Find out the circle area from the data. It is normal to compare the fungicide medium growth with the one that takes place in the control plates which has no fungicide.
Therefore, we can wait for the growth on the plate till it reaches a certain size. When this happens, we can take the measurements of the amended-medium growth.
In this way, we can get to know how much of it is stopped compared to the control. Alternately, we can measure all of them at a stated time.
