The calipers has sharp edges in between the measurements length. Since paper is a soft material, so the calipers can give an unaccurate thickness. For thickness measurement of paper the screw gauge will ideal.

No, we cannot measure the thickness a paper with vernier caliper as its least count is only 0.1 mm.
we should use a screw gauge instead as its least count is 0.01 mm as the thickness of the paper is in the range of 10-² mm
