Answer:

In this, we have to prove that the power measured by the two wattmeter i.e. the sum of the two wattmeter readings is equal to root 3 times of the phase voltage and line voltage (√3VLIL Cosϕ) which is the actual power consumed in a 3 phase balanced load. Fig 2. Fig1.

Explanation:

3 phase power can be measured by using 2 Wattmeter method.

As per this, the current coil of both wattmeters will be in series with the load on 2 different phases and the potential coil of both the wattmeters will be connected to the third phase.

The sum of both the wattmeter readings depicts the 3 phase power consumed.

3 phase power can also be measured by using 3 wattmeter method in a 3 phase 4 wire system.

As per this, the current coil of each wattmeter is connected in series with the load and the potential coil is connected to the neutral conductor of the system.

Sum of three wattmeter readings gives the 3 phase power consumed

2 wattmeter method can be used for both star and delta connected networks but 3 wattmeter method can be used only for star connected network with neutral wire.
