Answer:

remove the decimal point ( 2 × 86)

multiply normally like you multiply whole numbers ( 2 × 86 = 172)

now count how many decimal places are there in the question ( 0.86 - number 8 and 6 are in the decimal places that is after the decimal point. Therefore there are 2 places after decimal point)

now put the decimal point after 2 places as there were 2 decimal places in the question. ( 1.72)
