Obtaining 2-methylpropene from 2-methylpropanol:

The alcoholic KOH gives C_2H_5O ions. These ions are stronger base than the OH^- ions. Ethoxide ions being stronger they abstract the beta hydrogen of the alkyl halide and form the alkenes.

"2-methyl propanol is treated with the sulfuric acid and heated and then treated with the hydrogen gas which results in the production of 2-methylpropene. as shown in the diagram .
