Hello dear,
● Calcium carbide to phenol -
Calcium carbide is converted to phenol in following steps.
# Step I -
Calcium carbide on reaction with water gives acetylene.
CaC2 + 2H2O --> Ca(OH)2 + C2H2
# Step II -
Acetylene on passing over red hot iron tube gives benzene.
3C2H2 + ∆ --> C6H6
# Step III -
Benzene on reaction with hydrogen peroxide in presence of catalyst will give phenol.
C6H6 + H2O2 --> C6H5OH + H2O
Hope this helps you.
