, you can root your phone and replace the stock kernel with one that lets you change the stock speed. Look for something like How to overclock Android: turbo charge your device - AndroidPIT for the steps. There are also apps like No-frills CPU Control - Android Apps on Google Play to help. There are/were some phone-specific apps that allow overclocking on a few types of phones without rooting the phone.
I haven't been following this closely, so maybe there are more up-to-date answers. My phone gets way hotter than I would like without overclocking.
