Boron trioxide is prepared by reacting borax with sulfuric acid in a fusion furnace. At temperatures above 750 °C, the molten boron trioxide layer separates out from the sodium sulfate layer which can be separated by decanting. By heating boric acid above 300 °C also one can get boron trioxide.
