Refer to question patterns that has been there from past few years. Check for Sainik Schools preparation guide books. There are plenty of them in the market. Let him take a test and assess which all areas he can prepare well based on any difficulty that he might face while taking the test.

None of us know everything. So making mistakes is quite normal. I have seen some students who live in hostel of coaching institutes and prepare for these entrance tests which I won't ever recommend.
